Benedikt Erlingsson victorious in Theater Awards

Actor and director Benedikt Erlingsson won three awards at Gríman 2007, the Icelandic Theater Awards, on Friday. He was chosen the Playwright of the Year, Actor of the Year and Director of the Year.

Erlingsson won the first two awards for his solo act Mr. Skallagrímsson, a telling of Egils saga, staged in the Settlement Center in Borgarnes, near Reykjavík, Morgunbladid reports.

Erlingsson won the third award for directing Ófagra veröld (The Wonderful World of Dissocia) by Anthony Neilsson, staged at Reykjavík City Theater.

Erlingsson’s wife, Charlotte Böving, also won an award on Friday for Best Supporting Actress in Ófagra veröld. The play received four awards in total.

Dagur vonar (“A Day of Hope”), staged at the National Theater and directed by Hilmir Snaer Gudnason, was chosen as Play of the Year and Edda Björgvinsdóttir received an award as Actress of the Year for her role in the play.
