BBC World Service Returns to Iceland

BBC World Service radio had returned to Icelandic airwaves after media company 365 decided last month not to renew its broadcasting license with the BBC. Vodafone will now broadcast the program in Iceland on FM 103.5, ruv.is reports.

In a press release from Vodafone, head of BBC World Service Group Peter Horrocks said that listeners in Iceland had been very loyal and that it was with great satisfaction that the BBC was returning to Icelandic airwaves.

When canceling the broadcast, 365 reasoned that it receives no income from the station and access to the BBC via the internet is excellent. A petition on change.org urging 365 Media to renew its license to BBC World Service radio garnered around 1,000 signatures.
