BBC has purchased the broadcast rights to Icelandic crime series Ófærð (Trapped), which was produced by Icelandic director Baltasar Kormákur’s production company RVK Studios, according to Television Business International.
The ten-part series was mostly shot in Siglufjörður, North Iceland. The story begins with the finding of a mutilated body. A blizzard sets in, trapping the town’s inhabitants.
The series was commissioned by Icelandic national broadcaster RÚV and was produced with partners including ZDF, SVT, YLE, DR1, NRK and France Télévisions. According to Televisions Business International, the BBC was an early investor and will have a credit, but its deal was a pre-buy and it’s not a co-producer.
Sue Deeks, BBC head of program acquisition, said that BBC Four viewers were in for a treat. “A truly gripping storyline, stunning Icelandic setting and renowned feature film director Baltasar Kormákur was a combination impossible to resist.”
