Baugur Opens New Model for Retail in Reykjavík

Retail investment group Baugur (known as Hagar in Iceland) opened a new 7,600-square-meter store in central Reykjavík, Holtagardar shopping district, last week, designed by London-based brand and retail agency M Worldwide.

The store, a shopping outlet for retailer Hagkaup, is meant to act as an anchor for a new shopping center in Iceland’s capital. The concept behind it combines three core shopping trends, a high-end quality grocery store, a high-volume family value clothier, and a unique contemporary department store, as described in an M Worldwide press release.

According to Hagkaup CEO Gunnar Ingi Sigurdsson, the new store is “a new chapter not only for Hagkaup but for retail in Iceland. Customers are delighted with the new store—positive customer feedback has been incredible—they are saying this is a new dimension in retail.”
