Baugur case in court today

The last remaining charges of the Baugur case, which is probably the most extensive court case in the history of Iceland, will be dealt with in Reykjavík District Court today.

The three defendants, Jón Ásgeir Jóhannesson, Tryggvi Jónsson and Jón Gerald Sullenberger will give a report to the court. Jóhannesson, CEO of Baugur Group, will be the first on the stand. Fréttabladid reports.

The appointed public prosecutor has charged the Baugur three with 18 cases of fraud and embezzlement. This is an extensive court case in which about 100 witnesses are expected to take part, reports.

According to Fréttabladid, Reykjavík District Courts estimates it will take 1.5 weeks to question the Baugur three before other witnesses will be called to the court.
