Byr, a merger of the savings banks Sparisjódur vélstjóra and Sparisjódur Hafnarfjardar, has bought advertisement spaces on four popular Icelandic blogs. Such marketing strategies are new to advertising in Iceland.
According to Fréttabladid, Byr offered the four bloggers ISK 50,000 (USD 900, EUR 700) a month for their advertising space.
The bloggers in question are Óli Björn Kárason, Gudmundur Steingrímsson, Pétur Gunnarsson and Ellý Ármanns.
Steingrímsson, who is MP for the Social Democrats (Samfylkingin), said there were no special conditions involved with the agreement he made with the bank. “They wanted to advertise on my website and they were welcome to do so.”
