Icelandic director Baltasar Kormákur announced in an interview on national television station RÚV on Saturday that he will work with Oscar-winning actor Forest Whitaker again on Shakespeare’s Othello.
“I can promise you that it will be an unconventional approach,” Kormákur said.
Kormákur and Whitaker have previously worked together on A Little Trip to Heaven (2005), also starring Julia Stiles, which was filmed in Iceland.
Kormákur said during the interview that Othello with Whitaker in the leading role and him as a director, will be staged in the Barbican Theater in London in 2009. Many Icelandic actors will take part in the staging, possibly with Ingvar E. Sigurdsson playing Iagos.
The goal is then to take the show on tour in Europe and America with a few performances scheduled for Iceland.
