Baltasar to Direct Film about Reagan-Gorbachev Meeting

Icelandic film director Baltasar Kormákur is in discussions to direct Reykjavík, a historical drama chronicling the 1986 Reykjavík Summit meeting between U.S. President Ronald Reagan and General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union Mikhail Gorbachev, held in Höfði in Reykjavík. Progress achieved at the meeting eventually resulted in the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty between the United States and the Soviet Union.

Ridley Scott and Mike Newell previously considered directing the film. Michael Douglas will reportedly star as Reagan, variety.com reports.

Baltasar recently completed filming of Everest starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Josh Brolin and is set to direct Vikings.
