CCP Games announced on Saturday that it had signed a deal with Icelandic film director Baltasar Kormákur and his production company to develop an EVE Universe television series, expected to be seen by millions of viewers.
The series will be based on stories submitted by EVE users to the website. “The opportunity to interact with the fans of the EVE Universe directly opens up all sorts of exciting possibilities,” Baltasar said in a press release, adding that the “epic battles, daring heists, and gripping political intrigue” of EVE would make for a fantastic television series.
CEO of CCP Hilmar Veigar Pétursson expressed his excitement about the project. “Our close collaboration with Baltasar and his creative team gives me confidence that we will capture EVE’s essence, inspiring millions of TV viewers with visions of humanity’s future.”
The Reykjavík-based CCP Games is considered the world’s leading independent developer of massively multiplayer games.
The annual EVE Fanfest was held in Reykjavík last weekend with an election in the EVE Universe taking place simultaneously to the parliamentary election in Iceland.
