The National Association of Bakers announced the winner of the cake of year 2010 competition last weekend, an orange chocolate cake baked by Hilmar Hjálmarsson at Sveinsbakarí bakery in Reykjavík.

The cake was presented as a gift to Ingibjörg Ragnarsdóttir, team manager for the men’s national handball team, for her contribution in their success, Morgunbladid reports.

Iceland returned with the bronze from the European Handball Championship in Austria earlier this month.

“It is great to have cake with my coffee over the weekend. This cake is particularly delicious, its chocolaty taste and design is distinct,” Ragnarsdóttir commented.

Ten cakes were entered to the competition this year. The winner is usually announced around Women’s Day (konudagur), this year on February 21. According to Sveinsbakarí’s website, 360 cakes were sold last weekend.
