Bad Weather Keeps Rescue Workers Busy

More than forty rescue workers were busy overnight due to the stormy weather which affected many communities, Vísir reports. An ambulance went off the road in Oddskarð, East Iceland, last night because of high winds. Rescue workers managed to get it loose so it could continue to Egilsstaðir.

A boat in Reyðarfjörður harbor, East Iceland, came loose, the door to the swimming pool in Bolungarvík, the West Fjords, blew off, as did a window in the preschool in Suðureyri, also in the West Fjords.

Tourists were stuck in their cars in several places, window panes were broken by the winds, among other places in Egilsstaðir High School, East Iceland, where trees were also uprooted.

Moreover, the bad weather resulted in several school closings in North Iceland this morning.

Road conditions remain treacherous, and many mountain roads are impassable, including Fróðárheiði, West Iceland, and most mountain passes in the West Fjords.
