Bad Weather from East to West

By Iceland Review

The search and rescue team was called out to help four cars stuck on Hárekstaðarheiði mountain pass, on Ring Road 1, between Mývatn and Egilsstaðir in East Iceland last night. What they found was not four cars but 12 cars stuck in the blizzard, reports.

At the same time, in the West Fjords a search and rescue team had to fix a roof on a horse stall near the town of Ísafjörður after it blew off during the storm; the wind speed reached 126 km/h (78m/h).

At around midday today, strong winds of 75km/h (47m/h) were reported along Ring Road 1, near Höfn, Southeast Iceland. The wind at Ögur, 100 km (60 Miles) south of Ísafjörður, on road 61, was even stronger.

Travelers are advised to check the weather before planning a trip outside the capital region.
