The main hearings continue today. The prosecution is asking for a penalty of sixteen years in prison, rúv.is reports.

Yesterday, the woman bore witness, as well as her boyfriend and several experts. The prosecution’s case began this morning. Prosecutor Helgi Magnús Gunnarsson said that no case had caused him as much grief as this one. He demands that the woman be found guilty of voluntary manslaughter.

The defendant has steadfastly denied having been pregnant. At the main hearing yesterday she stated that she did not remember having given birth.

Two psychiatrists and a psychologist have deemed the woman culpable and at the hearings testified that in their opinion, she does not have any major psychological illness, personality disorder or anything of that sort. They could not find explanation for her state of mind during the deed she allegedly committed.
