Baby Girl Born on Reykjavík’s Busiest Street

Shortly after midnight on October 4 a baby girl was born in an ambulance driving on Miklabraut, which during rush hour is probably Reykjavík’s busiest street.

The parents-to-be called for assistance as they were afraid they wouldn’t make it to the delivery room in time, reports.

Two police officers were the first to come to their assistance, followed by ambulance workers who reached the police car shortly afterwards.

The couple was transferred to the ambulance but the vehicle didn’t make it any further than Miklabraut by the bridge leading to Skeidarvogur when the baby arrived.

A statement from the Reykjavík Metropolitan Police said that the mother and child are in good health and that the police officers involved were happy to have assisted.
