A baby girl was born in an ambulance driving on Reykjanesbraut highway from Ásbrú by Keflavík to the hospital in Reykjavík yesterday morning. This is the second time this year that paramedics from the Suðurnes region have helped deliver a baby in an ambulance.

“Perhaps this is the result of decreasing child delivery services in Suðurnes,” Jón Guðlaugsson, director of the Suðurnes Emergency Services, told Morgunblaðið.
He added that the delivery went well and that the mother and baby are in good health. A midwife from the Suðurnes Healthcare Center was also in the ambulance. “As far as I know the delivery exceeded expectations and everyone is happy,” Jón said.
