Baby Boom in Icelandic Cabinet

katrinjuliusdottir-radhMinister of Industry Katrín Júlíusdóttir is pregnant with twins. Her due date is late February, early March. She told the members of her Social Democrat parliamentary party the good news on Monday and the employees of her ministry the following day.

Júlíusdóttir is the second minister in Iceland’s history to become pregnant during her time in office and, presumably, take maternity leave, reports.

Her colleague, Minister of Education Katrín Jakobsdóttir, was the first Icelandic minister to do so; she had a baby boy in the spring and is currently on maternity leave.

Minister for the Environment Svandís Svavarsdóttir is currently filling in for Jakobsdóttir and serving as acting Minister of Education.
