Three avalanches were reported in Skutulsfjördur in Iceland’s Westfjords on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning after 24 hours of snowfall. No one was hurt.
One of the avalanches hit the protection wall above a building outside the town Ísafjördur in Skutulsfjördur, in which garbage is disposed of. RÚV reports.
The snow that hit the protection wall was three-meters thick; further snow was thrown from the wall and into the building. One man was working by the building, but he was not injured.
Inhabited areas in the Westfjords are not believed to be in danger, but it is considered risky to travel on snowmobiles in the mountains.
