The police in Húsavík had warned about driving the stretch and no one was there when the avalanche fell. The conditions are being investigated, visir.is reports.

Yesterday afternoon another avalanche fell in the region, hitting a dairy tanker driving on the road Fnjóskadalsvegur eystri near the Vaglaskógur forest.

The tanker was stuck in the avalanche but the driver was unharmed. Employees of the Road Administration assisted the driver in digging his vehicle out of the avalanche and cleared the road.

The road between Ólafsfjördur and Dalvík was closed last night due to a blizzard and avalanche risk. Heavy snowfall continues in north Iceland.
