An avalanche warning is in place in Bolungarvík, Hnífsdalur and Ísafjörður in the West Fjords. The road from Ísafjörður to Hnífsdalur is closed after an avalanche fell there this morning, ruv.is reports. Súðavíkurhlíð and Ólafsfjarðarmúli roads are also closed due to avalanche risk, while Þverárfjallsvegur is closed due to an accident.

At Kjalarnes, just north of the capital, strong gusts of up to 35 m/s will continue into this afternoon. Conditions are icy on Hellisheiði mountain pass to the south of the country while driving conditions are also difficult over Mosfellsheiði (the mountain pass from Mosfellsbær to Þingvellir) with a storm raging. The roads are also icy in South Iceland. Snow and strong winds are forecast for the north and west and rain is forecast in the east.
