The Icelandic Met Office has issued an avalanche risk warning for Patreksfjörður in the West Fjords.
Several houses have been evacuated and a decision will be made whether or not to evacuate other houses in the area.
Several avalanches have fallen on roads in the West Fjords. “This happens very quickly when the weather worsens,” the Met Office said in a statement.
An avalanche also fell onto an unoccupied vehicle in Patreksfjörður, mbl.is reports.
As reported, severe gale force winds are raging across parts of Iceland, including the West Fjords. A violent storm is forecast for the area later today.
