Avalanche Risk in East Fjords Lifted

The level of uncertainty due to avalanche risk declared in Iceland’s East Fjords yesterday has been lifted, as reported by mbl.is at midday today. The towns of Eskifjörður, Fáskrúðsfjörður, Neskaupstaður and Seyðisfjörður were subject to the uncertainty level.

According to Auður Elfa Kjartansdóttir at the Icelandic Met Office, the level of uncertainty was declared yesterday after significant precipitation in the area, most of which has passed now. “The snow freezes quickly and sits firmly. We don’t have any reason to keep the level of uncertainty in place any longer.”

The Icelandic Met Office and Civil Protection Department had been closely monitoring developments in the region.
