Familes in Patreksfjördur and Tálknafjördur in the west fjords have had to evacuate their homes due to avalanche warnings. Bjarnveig Gudbjartsdóttir, her husband Felix Haraldsson and their three children were among those who had to evacuate their Patreksfjördur home at midnight.
According to Gudbjartsdóttir the family has had to evacuate the house several times over the last decade. “We packed all neccessities, duvets, pyjamas and mattresses and then left.” In a meeting this morning, the town council and the Icelandic Public Defence decided that houses need to remain evacuated today. Today, snowfall contines in the west fjords.
