Avalanche Closes West Fjords Road

The road under Súðavíkurhlíð by Súðavík in the West Fjords is currently closed because of an avalanche which fell on the road last night. A northerly wind has been forecast for the next 24 hours, 8-13 m/s, with snowfall in some parts of the country.

The weather is expected to be clear in South and West Iceland today but most roads have a snow cover and slippery conditions, mbl.is reports.

In West Iceland, the road across Fróðárheiði is impassable, in Northwest Iceland the road across Ketilás to Siglufjörður and in Northeast Iceland there are impassable conditions at Tjörnes and Hálsar.

On some roads in the West Fjords and East Fjords driving conditions are difficult due to snowfall.
