An auction will be held at Grand Hotel in Reykjavík today at 5 pm to raise funds for the crisis center for rape victims, which is operated in the emergency room of the Landspítali hospital. Local celebrities have donated personal objects for the auction.
A group of “Ödlingar” with Thórdís Elva Thorvaldsdóttir (the only woman in the picture), who wrote the book Á mannamáli about sexual violence in Iceland.
These objects include a football jersey, an event staged by the band Baggalútur, “immortal” artwork and an original composition. All profits go directly to the crisis center, a press release states.
The group of participating celebrities is called Ödlingar, which means “generous persons.” Members include actor Björn Hlynur Haraldsson, visual artist Snorri Ásmundsson, football manager Rúnar Kristinsson and journalist Atli Fannar Bjarkason.
After the auction, a new group of Ödlingar will be nominated and the Ödlingur 2010 will be named—the member who has raised the most awareness for the cause.
