The asylum seekers spent the night in prison and were taken back to their accommodation in Reykjanesbær municipality in Southwest Iceland today, visir.is reports.

This is at least the tenth incident of this kind that has occurred since last spring and an Eimskip representative has commented that it appears that many asylum seekers only consider Iceland to be a springboard for traveling onwards to the US or Canada.

The long processing time of applications from asylum seekers in Iceland has been criticized.
