In the recent Eurobarometer survey, Icelanders were asked if the statement “the sun revolves around the earth” is true or not.
36 per cent of respondents said yes, compared to an average of 29 per cent of respondents in the European Union.
It is 405 years since Giordano Bruno was burned at the stake in Rome for questioning the same statement. Are Icelanders still afraid of the Inquisition or is it just their textbooks that are out of date?
