Musician Ólafur Þórðarson passed away at the Grensásdeild rehabilitation ward of the Landspítali national hospital in Reykjavík yesterday. He suffered serious injuries when his son attacked him in his home over one year ago and never regained consciousness.
The assailant, Þorvarður Davíð Ólafsson, was given a 14-year prison sentence in the Supreme Court of Iceland in October, Fréttablaðið reports.
Ólafur was born in Akureyri in 1949. He studied to become a music teacher and played with many bands in his long career as a musician, including Ríó Tríó, Kuran Swing and South River Band. He also ran an agency for musicians for many years.
Ólafur leaves behind a wife, two sons and a foster son.
