An investigation into the alleged assault on a Chinese migrant worker at the Kárahnjúkavirkjun dam project site, east Iceland, has revealed that the man most likely inflicted the injuries upon himself. This is reported by Fréttabladid and RÚV online today.
The man was found last weekend in the room he shared with another worker at a camp on the site, lying in his own blood and vomit, with blood all over the room. All indications pointed to a violent attack and the man was considered to have sustained life-threatening injuries. Having investigated the scene, however, the technical division of the Reykjavík Police Commission has found that the man most likely inflicted the injuries on himself. This is supported by forensics research.
No explanation has been given as to possible reasons for the incident.
