French artist Yann Dumoget is currently carrying out his project “Superadditum” in Iceland, which began on September 27 and will continue through November 1. Today he will present his project, which includes having people create their own banknotes, at Café Sólon on Bankastraeti 7 in Reykjavík from 2-5 pm.

“I am not an Icelander, worse still, I have never [before] set foot on your island. What little I know of your country is through what my Icelandic friends have told me,” the artist explained in a press release. “However, I am concerned, as many of us are, about the financial world crisis.”
“I have decided to tackle the subject, in a manner which I take very seriously, by way of making Art Work. As well as your pictorial contribution I would like you to be involved in all aspects of the project because so it becomes a true collaboration,” Dumoget added. “We might see a bit of poetry arise from the ruins, a bit of humor emerge from the slump.”
For his project he adopted the following thought process:
“If the great economists create currencies in an asymmetrical and uncontrolled way, if the emerging of this opaque and dehumanized worldwide financing has such deleterious consequences on our contemporary societies, why not encourage ordinary people to create your own currency, a personal and transparent currency which should, logically, have the reverse effect?”
