Artist Sara Riel Receives Gudmunda Art Prize

Artist Sara Riel was presented with an award from the Gudmunda S. Kristinsdóttir Fund for the Arts by Hafthór Yngvason, director of Reykjavík Art Museum, on Wednesday. The fund was established by Icelandic artist Erró in the name of his aunt.

He established the fund in 1997 with the aim of awarding an annual grant to recognize and empower the creation of art by women through the support of female artists who have demonstrated excellence in their field.

The past recipients of the award are Ólöf Nordal, Finna Birna Steinsson, Katrín Sigurdardóttir, Gabriela Fridriksdóttir, Sara Björnsdóttir, Thóra Thórisdóttir, Gudrún Vera Hjartardóttir, Hekla Dögg Jónsdóttir, Hulda Stefánsdóttir and Margrét H. Blöndal.
