Denmark-based Chilean artist Marco Evaristti pour pink food coloring into erupting hot spring Strokkur in the Geysir geothermal area in South Iceland yesterday and recorded a video of it as part of his ‘Pink State’ art project.
There are no traces of the pink color in the area anymore but the police are investigating the incident as a possible violation of the environment protection law, ruv.is reports.
Evaristti claims to be a landscape painter who doesn’t use a canvas but paints nature directly.
“The 5th Pink State, The Rauður Thermal Project, has seen the light of day. This morning the utopian state of Pink State claimed as it’s new territory the magnificent Strokkur Geysir in Iceland,” Evaristti wrote on his Facebook page.
He has performed similar stunts in Norway, Greenland, the Sahara and on Mount Blanc.
In 2013, a German artist was accused of “nature terrorism” when he spray-painted natural relics in the Mývatn area.
