Three men have confessed to having set fire to a bus in the Westman Islands last week, one of whom is a member of the local fire department. The bus was destroyed in the fire and the fire almost spread to the facilities of the local emergency service.
The firefighter who participated in the arson was also a member of the emergency service, as well as one of his accomplices. The firefighter has now requested being released from his duties, Fréttabladid reports.
Employees of the Westman Islands’ fire department and members of the local emergency service released a statement yesterday saying they regretted the event.
Police are now investigating whether the threesome may also be responsible for a number of other unsolved cases of arson in the Westman Islands that have taken place in recent months and years.
