Arsenal makes bid for Icelandic footballer

The English Premier League football (soccer) club Arsenal has made an offer for young Icelandic footballer Kolbeinn Sigthórsson to join their team, who plays for Kópavogur-based football club HK near Reykjavík.

For some time scouts from Arsenal have been watching 17-year-old Sigthórsson play, and have already invited him to practice with the team on several occasions, Morgunbladid reports.

Sigthórsson was recently invited to play with Arsenal’s youth team in an international tournament in Hong Kong next week, before he makes a decision on whether he would like to join the team permanently.

The footballer played for the Dutch football club Ajax in the youth team tournament in Spain at Easter.

HK has also been contacted by English football club Liverpool, Feyenoord from the Netherlands and Cardiff City from Wales, who are also interested in having Sigthórsson practice with their teams.

Sigthórsson is currently recovering from injuries he suffered while playing for Iceland’s under-19 team against Belgium in the European Championship earlier this month; he scored Iceland’s only goal.
