A New Yorker, Marcus Demuth has embarked on an eight-week journey around Iceland by kayak. Demuth navigates solo and could be the second rower to finish this dangerous route around the island alone.
Demuth is an experienced rower , having already rowed around Ireland and along the costs of Australia. Demuth believes that the journey around Iceland could take around eight weeks if the weather is not too bad. A woman from Israel was the first to row alone around Iceland in 2006 and her journey took eight weeks. Mbl.is reports.
Like any other rower, Demuth is not looking forward to rowing along the south coast. Because there are no natural harbors, rowers have to finish the south shore in one single , 14-hours stretch. “Yes, I am afraid” Demuth said to Morgunbladid.
