Aron Kale has been named Artist of the Year by the List án landmæra (Art Without Borders) art festival, RÚV reports. The festival aims to celebrate “the diversity of human existence” and welcomes the participation and collaboration of all artists from all backgrounds and experiences. Launched in conjunction with the European Year of People with Disabilities in 2003, this is the fifteenth time that the festival has been held in Iceland.
Aron Kale was born in 1989 and is a painter and pencil artist who primarily creates portraits, although he is also a DJ who enjoys using music as an inspiration in his work. He is an active participant in Art Without Borders’ East Iceland chapter, has taken part in Seyðisfjörður’s LungA art festival, and has already had a number of solo and co-exhibitions of his work. His work will adorn the promotional materials for this year’s Art Without Borders, and he will also be given a solo show during the event, which will take place from May 3 – 13 in Reykjavík and East Iceland and on May 26 – 27 in North Iceland.
