Armed Robbery in Family-Run Reykjavík Store

A young man armed with a knife threatened the clerk of Sunnubúd, a small family-run store in the Hlídar neighborhood in Reykjavík, on Sunday, demanding money from the cash register. The thief got away with the money and police are looking for him.

“The man was calm and cool-headed and walked straight to the counter. It was probably some loser who needed money to cover a drug debt,” the owner of Sunnubúd, Eysteinn Sigurdsson, told Morgunbladid.

Sigurdsson said the clerk, his son, had reacted correctly by following the thief’s demand and giving him the money from the cash register—a small amount. “When the man had left my son pushed a security button and called the emergency services.”

According to police, the store’s security camera caught clear pictures of the thief. He is around 20 years old and was wearing a dark parka and baggy jeans.
