The number of Arctic foxes in the Reykjavík area has increased. Foxes have been spotted along Reykjanesbraut highway and there have been instances where they have been run over.

Head of the Arctic Fox Center, Ester Rut Unnsteinsdóttir, told Fréttablaðið that it is important that people who live or have summerhouses in areas where foxes are found secure trash bins and do not leave food scraps lying around.

“It is important not to leave food out for the foxes and to secure items of food from them. Otherwise they cease to be scared of us and become tame. They are wild animals which should not be in built-up areas.”
