Applicant for District Judge Reports Decision

Lawyer Gudmundur Kristjánsson, one of the applicants for the office of the District Judge of Northeast Iceland, is planning to report the hiring of Thorsteinn Davídsson to the Ombudsman of the Althingi parliament.

Five applied for the position and a special committee established to evaluate their qualifications determined that three of the applicants, including Kristjánsson, were better qualified than Davídsson, Morgunbladid reports.

Acting Minister of Justice, Minister of Finance Árni M. Mathiesen, submitted a statement to national broadcast RÚV yesterday, arguing that Davídsson has extensive experience qualifying him for the position of District Judge, including from his work as assistant to the Minister of Justice, which is why he was hired.
