Polish tourists hiking around Hveravellir yesterday found strange footprints. Rangers in Hveravellir were quite surprised when the tourists returned and asked what Icelandic animal could have such large footprints.
The tourists, who had seen such footprints from brown bears in their homeland, immediately recognized the footprints they saw when they were shown pictures of polar bear footprints, Morgunbladid reports.
The police were called and a search began for the footprints, but they have not been found yet since the area is vast. The search will continue today.
A Farmer in Skagafjördur, where the other two bears came ashore, dreamt in the beginning of June of three polar bears on Icelandic ground. It is currently uncertain if the farmer’s dream will come true, but Icelanders have a long tradition of putting stock in such dreams.
