Iceland lost 28-25 against Russia in the Handball World Championship in Germany yesterday. They will now play for seventh place against Spain.
“The loss against Denmark was still on the players’ mind and the team has become rather tired […]. But today we had this game in our hands and I don’t know how many shots we blew at the last minutes. […] We just gave up,” Iceland’s trainer Alfred Gíslason said yesterday after the game. Fréttabladid reports.
“It will be a worthy task to get the men back on their feet before the game against Spain. It will be a very difficult game, as Spain has a better team than Russia,” Gíslason said.
It is important for Iceland to secure the seventh place to qualify for playing for a seat at the 2008 Olympics. The eight place could be enough, but then Iceland would end up playing against tougher opponents.
