Angela Hewitt plays in Iceland

Angela Hewitt, the world-renowned Canadian pianist, will play in Kópavogur tonight as part of the Canadian Culture Festival.

Hewitt has received special acknowledgement for her interpretation of the works of Bach, who, according to RÚV, is her favorite composer.

Hewitt told RÚV that she was only three years old when she began playing the piano. Her father was an organist in Ottawa, Canada, for 50 years and he taught her to appreciate the works of Bach.

Hewitt performed at many occasions at a young age. But she says is was a natural part of her life and that she never felt pushed into performing. Once, her parents turned down an offer from Hollywood.

The Canadian Culture Festival will continue until 22 October. Iceland has close ties to Canada as thousands of Icelanders migrated to Canada in the 19th century.
