The exhibition “Ma France” featuring artwork by world-renowned Hungarian photographer André Kertész opens in the Reykjavík Museum of Photography today. The exhibition comes from the respected Jeu de Paume museum in Paris.
Kertész (1894-1985) traveled to Paris in 1925, the city of poets and painters. His classic photographs of the Eiffel tower, Mondrian’s workshop and the unique “Satiric Dancer” were the beginning of a style later adopted by Kertész’s colleagues Brassaï and Cartier-Bresson, a press release from the museum states.
The exhibition is sponsored by the French Embassy in Iceland and Alliance Francaise, who will also participate in events held in relation to the exhibition. “Ma France” runs until January 17, 2010. Admission is free.
