Ancient Burial Site Discovered

A circle-shaped edifice discovered by the farm Bjarnastadir, located in Kolbeinsdalur in Skagafjördur fjord, has been confirmed to be an ancient burial site, reports.

The site was originally discovered by coincidence last summer when other ancient ruins were being examined. There are no records of its existence.

This summer’s research of tephra layers has revealed that the burial site was used in the 11th and 12th centuries. Its use was most likely discontinued shortly before the year 1300.
