An Icelandic “Bachelor”?

The newspaper Blað is reporting that Skjár Einn television station will be airing an Icelandic version of the popular reality program “The Bachelor.” Twenty-five eligible women will be competing for the heart and hand of one lucky man, who himself will have been selected from other candidates in a nationally televised vote. About 100 people have already contacted Saga Film, the production company. The deadline for applications is mid-August.

Producer Maríanna Friðjónsdóttir is so far pleased with the response, but emphasises that the Icelandic “Bachelor” will be different than its American counterpart. “We are working on making the program more an adventurous experience than some argument or fight between the girls

who take part,” Friðjónsdóttir told Blað. There is no word yet on what will happen if the Bachelor ends up unwittingly choosing a close cousin as his winner.
