American spinach recalled from Icelandic shops

All spinach imported from the United States was recalled from Icelandic supermarkets and grocery stores this weekend, following an outbreak of an e. coli epidemic in the US that was thought to have been caused by contaminated spinach. There has been one fatality and 100 people have fallen ill as a result of the epidemic in the US. RÚV and Morgunbladid online report.

The recalled spinach, which is flown in fresh to Iceland, originated from US company Earthbound Farm. The measures are precautionary and there are no reports of anyone in Iceland falling ill as a result of spinach consumption.
