Althingi reconvenes today

Iceland’s parliament, Althingi, will convene for the 133th time today and will be set by President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson. The ceremony begins with a mass at the Dómkirkjan cathedral, after which the President, ministers and MPs walk across the street to the parliament building. RÚV online reports.

The most senior member of Althingi, Jóhanna Sigurdardóttir (Socialist Alliance), will preside over the election of the parliamentary president. Also on the agenda today is the draft of the 2007 state budget and elections to Althingi’s permanent committees.
