Almost Half the Icelandic Nation to Eat Skate Today

Approximately 42 percent of respondents in a recent survey conducted by MMR (Media and Market Research) said they intend to have fermented skate on December 23, as is traditional in Iceland on this day, Þorláksmessa (St. Þorlákur’s Mass).

More men than women were keen on the traditional meal; 47 percent compared to 37 percent, reports.

Residents in the capital region favor the tradition less than those residing in other regions; 37 percent compared to 49 percent.

The biggest difference could be detected between age groups; skate grew in popularity with the age of respondents.

The majority of respondents in the 50+ age group, or 56 percent, were planning to have skate, 44 percent of those aged 30-49 and only 24 percent of those younger than 30.
