Almost 80 companies have pledged to reduce their emission of greenhouse gasses and to minimize their negative impact on the environment by reducing waste, according to RÚV. The firms will measure their results and provide reports on a regular basis. The project is organized by the City of Reykjavík and Festa, a center for socially responsible companies.
Altogether, 300 of the country’s largest companies were invited to participate―companies that are members of Festa, institutions, and other companies. The opportunity to take part in the project expires today.
Among those joining the effort are the University of Iceland, Reykjavík University, the University of Akureyri, the software company CCP, the airport operating firm Isavia, Icelandair, Wow Air, the City of Reykjavík and the waste disposal company Sorpa. A pledge to participate will be signed Monday.
