Fearless tourists flocked to Iceland in April 2011 in stark contrast to last year’s fears over the eruption in Eyjafjallajökull. The increase in passengers from April 2010 to April 2011 was 56%. A year ago Keflavík airport was closed frequently because of the eruption.

For the first four months the number of people coming to Iceland was 190 thousand compared to 157 thousand last year. The tourist service is optimistic that the year 2011 may be a record year for tourism. Many things are favorable for tourists, the Icelandic króna is weak and it is expected that later today a three year agreement will be made between employers and the biggest unions in Iceland.
