Almost 100 Sheep Killed in Trailer Accident

A trailer transporting 230 sheep overturned on Snaefellsnes peninsula near Stykkishólmur, west Iceland, yesterday. According to police, 80 sheep were suffocated inside the trailer, but the driver and a passenger were unharmed.

The trailer was transporting the sheep to the slaughterhouse after a round-up in the countryside of Helgafellssveit when the side of the road collapsed underneath it. All emergency services based on Snaefellsnes were called to the scene, reports.

The emergency crew managed to save the majority of the sheep and herd the survivors into a stable on the nearby farm Arnarstadir where veterinarians estimated their condition.
